South Africa 2010 – Eastern Cape

Addo Elephant National Park

From the Drakensberg we headed further south-west for our next wildlife park – Addo Elephant National Park. That was another one of unplanned wilderness parks, that was not on our original itinerary, but which we included in our journey based on our overwhelming experiences in Kruger and Umfolozi.

There’s around 600 km between Drakensberg and Ado park, so we made an overnight stop in Umtata, from where we continued past East London to the town of Addo, on the outskirts of the homonymous park. We found a nice guest house for two nights so that we could spend a whole day in the park. Of course, Addo Elephant Park is all about elephants, but there is no shortage of other animals too.

Garden Route

From Addo we continued west, along the famous Garden Route to Knysna, making a short stop in Tsitsikama National park along the way.
